MEET OUR Emeritus

A.N. Taylor, M.D.

Dr. Taylor was the founding member of Anniston Orthopaedic Associates. Born in 1919, Dr. Taylor began his education at The University of Alabama, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1939, followed by a Masters of  Business in 1940. He attended medical school at Northwest University in Chicago, graduating in 1943. At that time, he began a surgical residency at The U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, which he completed in 1946. From there, Dr. Taylor exclusively studied orthopaedics from 1950 to 1951 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Portland, Oregon and from 1951 to 1952 at Shriners Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

He joined the department of surgery at Anniston Memorial Hospital (which would eventually become Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center) on October 1, 1952.

He completed his formal education where it all began—at The University of Alabama— specializing in Orthopaedic Surgery, and he became board certified in 1957.

Dr. Taylor was one of very few orthopaedist in the state of Alabama when he began his practice.

S. Rush Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith is a graduate of Gadsden High School and served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1956. He studied Premedicine at the University of Alabama and is a graduate of Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith completed his postgraduate training at Emory University/Grady Hospital and became Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1969. (Recertified, 1984.) Dr. Smith practiced General Orthopaedics in Anniston, Alabama from 1967 until his retirement in 1994.

Everett G. Veach, M.D.

Dr. Veach was a founding member of Anniston Orthopaedic Associates. He was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He continued his education by earning his MD degree at Emory University School of Medicine, followed by a Rotating Internship and Orthopaedic Residency there.

C. Herbert McCrimmon, M.D.

Dr. McCrimmon graduated from The University of Alabama School of Medicine. He went on to serve his residency in Dallas, Texas at Parkland Memorial Hospital working alongside the team physician for the Dallas Cowboys. In 2013, he retired after 42 years with Anniston Orthopaedic.

John R. Payne, M.D.

Dr. Payne completed his undergraduate study at Emory College, Atlanta, Georgia and received his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine.  He completed his medical internship and general surgery residency at Emory University affiliated hospital, 6 Hospitals in Atlanta, as well as USAF General Surgery while stationed in Canada. Dr. Payne completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Emory University, affiliated hospitals, 6 hospitals in Atlanta.
