Curve? Slider? Pitch Count? What Matters Most in Protecting Little League Shoulders

"Take me out to the ballgame...take me out with the crowd...buy me some peanuts and...Tommy John surgery?"

No one wants the trips to the little league pitching mound to end in surgery. But studies have shown that kids between the ages of 9-14 years old who throw curve balls were 50-60% more likely to incur shoulder injuries, and for children of the same age who throw sliders, those numbers increased to 86% for elbow injuries. In later studies, it's been determined that it's actually pitch count that has more to do with shoulder and elbow injury than the type of pitch thrown.

In this YouTube link, Dr. Andrew Morris shares information to help up-and-coming baseball players minimize their arm injury risk.
