Spring is almost here. That will mean new growth—for nature and for Anniston Orthopaedic Associates (AOA.)  In 2022, AOA started a satellite clinic in Roanoke, Alabama, about 60 miles south of their home-base in Anniston.  Each month, Dr. Gordon Hardy and his nurse, Chrissy, along with Dr. Michael Wiedmer and his nurse, Dana, hold at least one orthopaedic clinic at RMC’s Roanoke Urgent Care and Rural Health Clinic.  The response has been overwhelming.  Patients who would otherwise have to travel over an hour for orthopaedic care can now receive treatment just minutes from their home.  

In light of the success in Roanoke, the idea of growing to the west—specifically, toward Lincoln and Pell City—began to take root.   Dr. Wiedmer, while continuing to see and serve his patients at our Anniston and Roanoke locations, performing surgeries at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center and The Surgery Center Oxford, will also begin seeing patients on the first floor of St. Vincent’s Pell City. He will also perform surgeries at St. Vincent’s Pell City, as well.

“Growth is always the goal,” says Tammy Freeman, administrator at Anniston Orhopaedic Associates.  “We look at several factors when deciding how and when to extend the practice, including evaluating the needs of the community and the availability of our physicians.  Dr. Wiedmer has done a great job of serving patients he has had for decades in Anniston while meeting the needs of new patients in Roanoke.  We expect that’s exactly what he will do in Pell City, as well.”
